Souq Al Jubail (SQAJ), a project of Sharjah Asset Management (SAM), the investment arm of the Sharjah Government, continues enforcement of preventive measures focused on combating the spread of the novel Corona Virus (COVID-19). During this time, the team has also adopted several practices to educate community members on precautions to be taken to control the spread of the disease.
These measures include installation of infrared cameras at the entrances of the Souq to monitor visitors and conducting daily temperature check-ups for all workers before allowing them inside the marketplace. Workers stationed at the fruits, vegetables, fish and meat sections in the Souq, along with employees of “SANED” company will be thoroughly scanned. All employees will be extensively briefed about the preventive measures to be taken during this period, recommending those complaining of any symptoms to self-isolate or visit a hospital.
A dedicated team has been allotted to sanitise all shopping trolleys at the Souq before and after customer use, several times throughout the day. Also, 50 sanitiser dispensers have been installed across all Souq’ areas, checkout counters, and cashiers have been asked to wear gloves at all times.
The cleaning staff working during each shift have been directed to thoroughly disinfect floors and exposed surfaces that are typically being touched often. Stores were asked to reduce the number of employees to two, to adopt the social distancing practice.
At this time, the staff at Souq Al Jubail also encourages social distancing, requesting to keep a safe distance between shoppers and directing visitors to limit the number of shoppers to only one per family. Shoppers have also been advised to keep children at home. The market will be operating 24 hours a day to provide fresh daily produce at all times.
